Do we get a bag?
Each rider will receive a complimentary kit bag to be used during the TransCape. Only this bag will be transported for the rider. It is the rider’s responsibility to get this bag to the bag truck every morning to ensure it is transported to the finish of the stage.

Other bags/suitcases can be transported for riders, but they will be unavailable until the finish in Franschhoek.

Please DO NOT LEAVE valuables in this bag. TransCape takes no responsibility for loss or theft of any items left in these bags.

How big is the bag?
The bag is large enough to fit 7 days worth of kit and clothing.
Must I bring a sleeping bag and pillow, towel?
Your accommodation requirements are taken care of during the Race. Each rider will spend every night in accommodation with a bed, and all linen and towels are provided. The only time you may need a sleeping bag is if you book your own accommodation for the nights before and after the event, and you are required to bring a sleeping bag.  Own towel to be provided should you wish to take a shower at the finish venue after stage 7 in Franschhoek.
Do I need money with me everyday
Yes. Although all meals and most drinks provided, there will be times when a cash bar or certain other food items will be available to purchase should you want more to eat or drink.
Can I buy a branded kit from you or branded mementos for my kids?
There will be a range of TransCape merchandise available for purchase. Updates of this will be posted on the website and notices sent to riders with all the details.
How many pairs of kit must I bring?
TransCape have negotiated a laundry service with the guesthouses, so you are able to wash kit during the race. The only town with no laundry service is Greyton, so please factor that into your kit count.
When do I hand my own luggage in?
At registration, you will receive your TransCape bag. You transfer your race and social gear for the week into this bag, and hand us your original luggage. We will transfer this luggage to Franschhoek for you. Please note: this will not be available to you until we get to Franschhoek.

Your race bag will be transferred each day from the start to the finish.

Are there mechanics/maintenance packages available?

Bike Service Packages are available through Cycle Tech. For more info, click here

Valuables - do you have a safe we can lock our valuables into?
Some guesthouses have a safe for overnight storage, but this is not guaranteed. During the transport between start and finish, your bag is locked in a truck. However, it is not advisable to bring valuables other than your phone (please ride with your phone for emergencies) and your GPS (again, you will be riding with this device)
Where do we charge our phones/GPS
All riders stay in guesthouses every evening, so you have an opportunity to charge your phone/gps overnight.
How do I get from the airport in George to Knysna
‘Tours for South Africa’ are our logistics and transport partner, and bookings for transfers from the airport can be booked through them directly.
Bike transfers - from airport - especially for our international riders
‘All In Events’, our Bike Transport partner, will have packages to allow riders to leave their bikes at the airport. ‘All In Events’ will collect the bike, assemble and transport the bike to the event. The same service will be offered on the return trip. Bookings for this service will open in September.
How do I get from the finish to my guest house?
There are shuttles that transfer riders from the finish to your guesthouse every evening, as well as to dinner and the start the following morning.
We are a group of 6 riders; can we sleep in the same place please?
While every effort will be made to accommodate these requests, not all of them will be possible. The accommodation in each town is very limited and it remains one of our biggest challenges to make sure all requirements are met. Your understanding in this regard is appreciated.

Race and Route

Cut off times – are there any?

Cut off times will be enforced as a safety measure; however, they are very fair and are aimed at ensuring each rider finishes the day, and ultimately the entire race.

What is available at water points?

The water points during the Tour are fully stocked, with varying items during the day. Some of what is available includes: baby potatoes, bananas, fruit cake, 32Gi (bars, gels, electrolyte replacement), water, fruit, jelly babies

What is the distance between water points?

The distances between water points vary each day, depending on the distance and terrain. You will be provided with specific details and distances closer to the event.

Are there tech points and where?

We have tech zones at water point 2 on every stage. Please ensure you carry some spares with you, even if you are not sure how to use them, as our sweep riders are able to assist.

I struggle to load the maps on my GPS

There will be a ‘how to’ sent out with the routes once they are released. If you still battle, we will have a PC at registration with a crew member assisting in the downloading of routes onto your GPS.

Will the route be marked?

Yes, but you are required to have the route downloaded onto your GPS device in order to ensure you are prepared for any eventuality. Route files to be sent to all riders prior to the race start for download.
